years ago, a man by the name of Robert S. Newell Sr., decided to start a Fire Department Supplies company out of a converted bread truck. Today, that company has become a multi-million dollar corporation. Here is our story:
It was early March 1970 when Robert decided the time was right to start his own company. With little money and no collateral to purchase a building and pay for its utilities Robert opted to buy a bread truck to work out of and hired an answering service to handle the few phone calls he expected to receive. It was finally official when he registered his company with the state and opened a PO Box in Red Bank, New Jersey; Allied Fire & Safety Equipment Company, Inc. was born.
A year later Allied, staffed with only 3 employees, was experiencing growing pains as they looked for more ways to expand their business. That year the answer to some of their problems came when Robert's brother Ronald S. Newell Sr. joined the company as Vice-President after serving a tour of duty in Vietnam with the US Army. Dedicated to helping his brother and his company succeed, Ronald decided to don a suit during the day to sell both Commercial and Industrial Fire Suppression Systems and would then change in to work clothes to install the same jobs at night. By the end of 1971, Allied was not only into selling Fire Department Supplies but was now installing and servicing Portable Fire Extinguishers and Fire Suppression Systems. Ronald's selling methods continued to prove effective as Allied Fire & Safety began installing and servicing Fire Sprinkler Systems in 1975. Once again Allied ran into some growing pains, but this time it was due to the rapid expansion of their business and the services it offered. How do you run a half a million-dollar company out of a bread truck? The answer seemed to be just a few miles from Robert and Ronald's home when they decided to buy their own building located at 381 Hwy 35, Middletown, New Jersey.
For the next eight years Allied Fire & Safety's efforts stayed focused on improving what they already knew how to do, create business! Allied had grown to a force of 30 employees which produced annual sales of over three million dollars. It was not until 1983 when Allied entered their next phase of expansion. James V. Daniello joined the company and created the Fire Alarm and Security Division.
By 1990 Allied Fire & Safety had already become a major player in the Fire Protection Contractor Field. As quick as they moved into the Hwy 35 property they were moving out. Allied had grown to over 40 employees and needed a larger place to call home. Later that year Allied moved to its current location, 517 Green Grove Rd, Neptune, New Jersey. Everything seemed to be going great when Allied suffered their first major setback, their President; Robert S. Newell Sr. had passed away. Although this was a setback it strengthened the Allied Family as they continued on with Robert's dream.
The year 2000 once again brought change upon Allied as they continued to grow and solidify themselves as leaders in the Fire Protection Industry. With over 50 employees and growing, Allied decided to open a state of the art, full production 5000 square foot pipe fabrication shop and warehouse located on their property in Neptune, New Jersey.
In 2006 Allied continued their move to the top, by starting a Hood Cleaning Division.
Today, Allied Fire & Safety has grown into a force of over 65 employees, which produce annual sales of over nine million dollars. Although we can not predict the future, we can assure you that Allied Fire & Safety Equip. Co., Inc. plans to remain as one of the industry leaders now and well into it.
